Haven House has been in existence since 1964 as a battered women and children’s shelter program. In fact, Haven House was the first shelter of its kind in the nation. Here is a brief description. Haven house also has a 24 hour crisis hotline which assists over 2,000 victims of domestic violence per year.
Haven House is a 30 day domestic violence emergency shelter program, operating 24 hours per day, 7 days per week. Our target population is victims of domestic violence and their children up to age 17 years old. Services include shelter, food, clothing, case management, social service advocacy, legal assistance, professional and paraprofessional individual and group counseling, parenting education, art therapy, household establishment assistance, transportation, and community outreach, prevention and education. Haven House operates a 24 hour/7day per week crisis hotline which assists callers looking for help in a variety of circumstances, including callers seeking admission to our shelter services.
Eligibility criteria includes: being a victim of domestic violence, non-suicidal, non-homicidal and non-psychotic; willingness to participate in all aspects of our program and acceptance of all rules and safety plans; willingness to work toward goals and geographic safety (i.e., has no friends, family, acquaintances, daily activities, etc. located too closely to the actual shelter).
Haven House services are located in SPA 3, Supervisorial District 5, but as most domestic violence emergency shelters do, we service victims from all geographic areas, including out of state.

Below is a copy of our original letter from the Internal Revenue Service dated April 17th, 2012, stating B.I.G. Humanity is incorporated as a charitable organization with 501(c)3 status. These credentials mean that B.I.G. Humanity can provide you with financial and in-kind donation receipts for your gifts to the organization which can be used as tax deductions under section 170 of the Internal Revenue Code. As an organization, we are also exempt from paying sales tax.
